Follow Up : H1N1Updates “No.19”

It seems that I am going to update our H1N1 infection toll in Egypt on daily basis after all !!

The minister of health has declared today that our H1N1 aka Swine flu infection rate has reached to 19 after the infection of 4 years old American boy. The American boy was living with his family in Cairo and he is currently in hospital.

He was given Tamflu and currently stable.

Now publicly people especially ladies began to wear masks in public in streets,in shopping malls and in metro stations. There is a debate currently whether the country should cancel Umrah and Hajj ‘Pilgrimage’ this year to Mecca for fear of infection. The tourism companies, especially those specialized in Umrah are expected to lose million of dollars especially they are going to miss the coming Umrah season in Ramadan. I notice lately that the tourism companies began to underestimate the danger of H1N1 in order to make people not fear , of course they have to try harder because the people themselves began to cancel their trips “I know some personally”.

Already I expect if things get worse Saudi Arabia itself may cancel at least the Umarh season in coming Ramadan which is after two months.

By the way I recommend you to check this interactive map , of course it is not updated with the latest cases in the week and on Sunday.

  1. The swine flu has been declared pandemic but it is not a killer flu. Pandemic simply means that it has spread worldwide and has reached a certain number. As with the common flus the great majority of those infected will survive. Your pigs were the major victims!!!!

  2. It is not a real danger worldwide but considering our poor health infrastructure and the fact that the Avian flu has inhabited Egypt make many Egyptians scare from the odd it may mutate to something even much more worse
